Kinderuni 2025: Nanomaterialien entdecken

What are nanomaterials, how does the atomic structure influence their properties, and how can we measure and manipulate them in our research?
These are a few of the questions we tried to answer in our Kinderuni workshop with the title “Nanomaterialien entdecken” (Discovering nanomaterials).

Guided by a “labbook” (download here), the participants visited four interactive stations to learn about length scales — from galaxies that span millions of lightyears, to atomic distances in the order of angstrom, exfoliate their own graphene to take home, explore dimensions in carbon nanomaterials and finally discover how we can manipulate materials on the atomic scale and how that influences the properties we measure.
